Replication Partners

Each year the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention receives numerous inquiries from individuals and organizations from across the United States who are interested learning more about how they can bring the CeaseFire to address lethal violence in the places they live and work.

Since 2007, with the generous grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Chicago Project has been able to respond to such requests and to provide comprehensive training and technical assistance to replicate the CeaseFire model with fidelity in cities experiencing similar violence epidemics. Since 2007, our national partners have included the Baltimore City Health Department and the Kansas City, Missouri Office of the City Manager. By mid-year 2010, several new replication partners will be trained and operational in eleven New York State cities including—Albany, Buffalo, Mount Vernon, Niagara Falls, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers—as well as Phoenix, AZ. The Chicago Project continues pre-implementation planning conversations with Columbus, OH, New Orleans, LA, and Philadelphia, PA.

CeaseFire technical assistance and training services are provided as a comprehensive package to meet the needs of the lead implementation partners early in the replication process and can include data analysis and site selection assistance, to guidance on hiring credible messengers, staff training, and systems and documentation for program monitoring and evaluation efforts. With over 10 years of experience in Illinois communities, the Chicago Project team works with national partners in-person and remotely through all stages of the replication process. The team is particularly focused on training such that national partners are prepared to implement effective street outreach work—how to identify and connect with those at highest risk, as well as how to interact with the community to change the social norms around violence so that it is no longer a normal response to conflict.

To learn more about becoming a CeaseFire National Replication Partner and the comprehensive training and technical assistance services available, please contact Amanda Geppert, Director of National Partnership and Technical Assistance at (312) 355-3772 or ageppert@uic.edu.

Learning Network

In addition to national replication partners, the Chicago Project seeks to build a national community of practice so that those working to address street violence can learn from one another and collaboratively move the field of evidence-based violence prevention forward. The first network meeting will take place in Autumn 2010. More information to follow.
